Vera Bühlmann is founder and head of the theory-lab for applied virtuality at CAAD ETHZ. She studied English Language and Literature and Philosophy at the University of Zürich, and holds a PHD from the Institute for Media Sciences, University of Basel. She seeks to understand better how a semiotics of mathematics, code and programming languages fit within a general literacy of generic objects as architectonic articulations. Key references for her work are Louis Hjelmslev’s glossematics, Gilles Deleuze’s atomism of the power to imagine and an algebra of what it means to think, and Michel Serres’ notion of how to sign a natural contract. She is author of the forthcoming book Die Nachricht, ein Medium, Annäherungen an Herkünfte und Topoi städtischer Architektonik (Vienna: ambra, 2014) and co-editor with Martin Wiedmer of pre-specifics, Investigations on Research in Art and Design (jrp ringier: Zurich 2008). For a more detailed CV please refer to her faculty’s page, or to her profile on academia.net, or to her research blog www.monasandnomos.org.
